Read the passage Luke 1
(And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. And he
asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they
marveled all. And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue
loosed, and he spake, and praised God.)
What endears the heart to God:
1. The presence of mercy to the one previously unbelieving.
v.20-(And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, …because thou believest not my words,)
2. The inclusion in blessing of one previously unbelieving.
3. God’s faithfulness to His word. He keeps it.
4. God’s faithfulness to His people.
v. 16, 17 (And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. …)
5. God’s faithfulness to His servant.
Zechariah.
6. The passage of the time of God’s chastening.
7. The arrival of the time of God’s liberty.
Zechariah was free to talk of God’s goodness and gift.
