The Measure of True Love Mark 14: 3-9

v.3 1. It will show.

2. It will be an unashamed response.

v.5 3. It will be costly.

v.4 4. It will be misunderstood by men.
(and there were some that had indignation within themselves,)

v.6 5. It will bring joy to your heart.
(She hath wrought a good work on me.)

v.6-8 6. It will be accepted by Jesus.
(Let her alone … She hath done what she could;)

v.9 7. It will have a testimony that remains.

No Small Stir Acts 12: 18, 19

what was become of Peter.)
(And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the 
keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went
down from Judea to Caesarea, and there abode.)

1. The heart of man is troubled when he realizes he lost control. 
2. The heart of man is troubled when his powerlessness is exposed.

3. The heart of man is troubled when he is met with embarrassing 
circumstances

4. The heart of man is greatly troubled when he realizes he never had control.

5. The heart of man is troubled when he has no answers.

6. The heart of man is troubled when he is made to look foolish before others.

7. The heart of man is proven to always lose before God.

Precious Ointment Mark 14: 3-6, 9

v.3 1. Items of earthly value, when used for heavenly purpose become very
precious.

v.5 2. Items so precious do not have to be sold to have great value--may destroy
or lessen their value.
(might have been sold)

v.5 3. Items so precious have an unseen value.
(more than three hundred denarii)

v.5 4. Items so precious are of greater value to the poor and needy than earthly
goods and riches.
(given to the poor)
How to really help the poor- give them Jesus.

v.6 5. Items given of, and accepted of Jesus, truly are precious.
(she hath wrought a good work on me.)

v.9 6. Items so precious given away for Godly purpose increase in value.
(…shall be spoken of)

v.9 7. Precious ointment having Christ-given value never fades away.

A Wise Father Genesis 28: 1-4

27: 1.In the midst of challenge (here marital), he makes right choices.
46 (And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth:
…)He is able to see the real plan of importance. 
He is not threatened or overcome by false pressures but holds on to major issues.

v.1 2.He fulfills his place of spiritual counsel and leadership.
(And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou 
shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.)

v.2 3.He realizes the importance of gaining God's choices for his children.
(Arise, go to …and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy
        mother's brother.)

v.3 4.He maintains an understanding of the greatness of almighty God and of the 
         promises scripture holds.
 (And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful and multiply thee, that thou
         mayest be a multitude of people;)
 Acknowledging God will be faithful in providing a wife-Rebekah.

v.3,4 5.He understands the commitment God holds in covenant to bless his children-God's
children.
(And God Almighty bless thee...And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to
        thy seed with thee; )

v.4 6.He fully entrusts his children into God's land of promise, desiring their full partaking
        of God's greatness and goodness.
( that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.)

v.3,4 7.His view of the future is one of overruling joy and blessing from God for His
        children. (…a multitude…)

Expendable Resources Mark 14: 3-9

v.3 1. Some people store up resources, others expend them for God’s glory.
(very precious;) (and she broke the box, and poured the ointment on His 
head)
glory through giving not through personal usage or usage on self

v.4 2. Some people see ministry as a waste, others see ministering as a privilege
bestowing honor.
(…why was this waste of the ointment made?)

v.5 3. Some people place a higher value on earthly treasures than on heavenly
riches.
(…sold for more than three hundred denarii, …)

v.5,6 4. Some people do not want to be responsible stewards of spiritual resources 
and are upset with those who do.
(and they murmured against her.) (Why trouble ye her?)

v.7,8 5. Some people represent to have a worthy spiritual motive, which is
unsupported, while others are engaged in a genuine work of faith.
(for ye have the poor with you always, … but me ye have not always)
(she hath done what she could; …)

v.7 6. Some people see resources as expendible for their own gain, others see
resources as an expression of love in the Kingdom’s work.
(but me ye have not always)

v.8 7. Some people see resources as having only present value, others see their
eternal value.
(…to anoint my body for the burial.)
(wherever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this
also that she hath done shall be spoken of, for a memorial of her.)

Heaven's Bounty Mark 8: 5-9

V 5, 7 1) Heaven acknowledges the greatness of man's need. 
( ... How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven) (and they had a few small fish;)

v 6 2) Heaven makes preparation to bestow its miracle of grace. 
(and He commanded the people to set down on the ground:) 
Heaven is prepared with the provision for men's needs. 

V 6 3) Heaven magnifies earth's limited resources. 
(and He took the seven loaves, and gave thanks,)

v 6 4) Faith is the distribution channel of heaven's bounty. 
(and gave to His disciples to set before them;) 
physically there was lack.
Spiritually there was no lack.

V 7 5) Thanksgiving acknowledges the expanse of heaven's bounty. 
(and He blessed) 

v 8 6) Blessed partaking of heaven's bounty is the extension of heaven's love and mercy. 
(so they did eat, and were filled:) 

v 9 7) Bestowal of heaven's bounty causes no diminishing of its greatness, but rather reveals 
its greatness. 
(and they that had eaten were about four thousand, ... )

What is In Your Alabaster Box? Mark 14: 3

1. a love that exceeds reason.

2.    a spirit of giving that exceeds any desire for holding back.

3.    a spontaneity that exceeds (speeds past) fleshly argument.

v.4   4.     a response that exceeds human commitment.

5.    a freedom that exceeds pride's hold.

6.    a fragrance that exceeds the despair of the moment

V.9   7.    a testimony that exceeds the life of the action

The Reach of the Master's Hand (or sparrow theology) Matthew 10: 29-31; Luke 12: 6

v.29 1. God’s care for the significant is borne out by his care for the insignificant.
(Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and)

12: 2. True life value can only be imputed and measured by God.
6 (Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings,)

v.29 3. The superiority of the Father’s will is evident in all of life.
(and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.)

12: 7 4. God counts the least; surely He accounts for the more.
(and not one of them is forgotten before God.)

v.30  5.   God has purposes unknown to man.
12: 7      (But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.)

v.31  6.   The commitment of God to life is beyond human measure.
(Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.)
Ours should also be.

7.    Life is then not to be worried about nor fussed  over, but lived in humility, 
trusting and honoring the Creator.
It is so important to honor God as Creator.
