Power from on High Luke 24 49





Read the passage: Luke 24

(And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.)
  1. It isn’t something we can get on our own. 
    if we could we wouldn’t want it.

  2. It has to come from the Father.

  3. It is sustained and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

  4. It is kept on course of/by the word of God.

  5. It is for the purpose of exalting the Lord Jesus Christ, Savior and Lord.

  6. It is essential to effectual serving.
    to prayer, ministry, exercise of gifts, serving, loving, family responsibility, ...


  7. It is God’s desire to give it, wait on it, before you go. 
    (tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ...)
    wait in your Jerusalem.

V 11 1) Jesus is worthy.

v 11, 19: 1 2) To Jesus belongs glory and honor and power. 
(to receive glory and honor and power;)

v 11 3) To Jesus belongs the praise of creation.
(for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.)


v 3 4) His works are marvelous.
(Great and marvelous are thy works, Lord God Almighty)


v 3, 19: 2 5) His ways are just and true.
(just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.)


v 1 6) Joy is His expression. 
(Hallelujah)

v 5 7) Praise is His due.
(And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise Our God, all ye servants, and ye that fear Him, both small and great.)

v.8 1. Familiar with rebellious conflict.
(And he said unto them, I beheld satan as lightning fall from heaven.)


v.8 2. Stronger than rebellious conflict.

v.19 3. Having power to delegate to His followers.
(Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and)


v.19 4. Power to protect His followers.
(and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall be any means hurt you.)


v.20 5. Power in ministry.
(Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.)


v.20 6. Power to preserve ministry.

v.20, 7. Power to give life forever.
(because your names are written in heaven.)

Christ's Teachings-Why the Best Gift? Luke 11 13

  1. He never leaves the believer.

  2. His every course and action is compliant with the word and will of God.

  3. He knows what is right for the believer and reveals that to the heart of the believer.
    Luke 12: 12

  4. He empowers the believer for accomplishment of God’s will. 
    Hebrews 2: 4, prayer Jude 20 2 Timothy 1: 4 Rom 12 & 1 Corin 12, gifts

  5. He knows the riches of Christ. 
    Heb 10: 15

  6. He enables the believer to partake of true riches.
     Heb 6: 4

  7. He redeems the believer’s time and enables the child of God to avoid conflicts.
     2 Corin. 6: 6

  8. He keeps the believer on target and aids spiritual increase. 
    2 Peter 1: 21, moved men John 14: 18

  9. He works in the believer to maintain right relationships, first with Jesus and then with men.
    1 Tim. 4: 8

  10. He helps the believer discover what Jesus has for Him, and encourages a response assuring continual fellowship with the Master.
    John 14: 26 Eph 4: 30

The Hope That Encourages Numbers 15 1, 2





Read the passage: Numbers 15

v.1 1) The continuing nurture of God's word (what God has to say) gives a believer hope and encourages him to go on.
(and the Lord spoke unto Moses)

v.1,2 2) The knowledge that God has more to be gained gives a believer hope and encourages him to go on.
(saying, speak unto the children of Israel,)

v.2 3) The certainty of God's declaration gives a believer hope and encourages him to go on. 
(when ye are come •• )
Not if but when, even with God's foreknowledge He could make such a declaration. God believes they will make it and instructs accordingly.

vs.2 4) The definition of home, a place for God's people to dwell, gives believers hope and encourages them to go on.
(into the land of your habitations)

vs.2 5) The testimony of God's gift to His people gives a believer hope and encourages him to go on.
(which I give unto you,)

vs.2 6) The expectation of future fulfillment gives a believer hope and encourages him to go on.
(which I give unto you)

vs.2 7) The abundant mercies of God even amidst treacherous rebellion gives a believer hope and encourages him to go on .
(speak unto the children of Israel, ... when ... I give unto you)

The Message John 9 2, 3, 38





Read the passage: John 9

v.2 1. The presence of difficulty in life is not necessarily a direct consequence of sin. 
(And His disciples asked Him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?)

v.3 2. There are works of God that are of sovereign origin, He is going to do them. 
(....but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.)

v.1,3 3.God's sovereign works are in God's sovereign time. 
(a man blind from his birth...)

v.3 4. The glory of God may be manifest through the deficiencies of man. 
(....that the works of God should be made manifest in him.)

v.3 5. The message of God's divine expression is of God's power and glory. 
(the works of God ...)

v.13 6. God has a higher purpose for His miracles. 
(They brought to the Pharisees ...)

v.38 7. To be used of God is to be treasured and is a blessed fellowship given in grace. 
(And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped Him.)

1) The Father's statement of truth.

2) The highest exaltation of our spirit. 
when we exalt Jesus

3) The protection against fleshly appeal. 
focusing on Jesus

4) The profession of honor from every believer. 

5) The meditation of the heart on eternal truths. 

6) The joy in every trial.

7) The acclamation of heaven for all eternity.
