God Dealing with Sin 2 Samuel 12: 1-14

1) God's word exposes sin. V.1
(the Lord sent Nathan to David ... ) 

2) The unjustness of sin is exposed by the justness of God. v.2-4

3) It is easier for a sinner to see another’s sin than his own. V.5

4) Restoration is a part of the cleansing from sin. V.6
(he shall restore the lamb fourfold) 

5) God’s word exposes the sinner. V.7
 (Thus saith the Lord) 
The Holy  Spirit convicts of sin. John 16: 8,9

6)A sinner cannot escape accountability for his sin. v.7 
(thou art the man) 

7) Every believer is accountable to the truth of God’s word-what he does with the Word of God. 
v.7 (I annointed thee) 

8) Every believer has been delivered from sin, thus is without excuse. 
v.7 (I delivered thee)

9) Every believer has Christ’s sufficiency, thus no need to look elsewhere. V.8
(I gave thee ... ,I would have given thee ..• )

10) God views a choice to sin as a despite to His grace and truth. V.9
(despised the commandment of the Lord) 

11) Sin is not without wages. V.10
(sword shall not depart from thine house) 

12) Failure to live by truth will result in a continual visitation of God’s chastening or judgment. V.10
(sword shall not depart) 

13) Sin cannot be made acceptable to God, who is Holy.
V.10,11 (Now therefore ... ) 
Sin can be forgiven, however.

14) Sin has to be dealt with by God.
v. 11 (Thus saith the Lord ... ) 
God loves His own too much to allow them to get by with sin and draw wrong conclusion. 

15) Sin exposes a be1iever’s family to sins wages.
v. 11 (against thee out of thine house, take thy wives ... )

16) God may choose to use man’s sinful pleasure as His judgment. V.11

17) Sin disgraces a believer as well as God. v.11

18) Sin cannot be covered up (hidden) from God. v.12
(thou didst it secretly) 

19) God is interested in protecting His people from sinning, thus sin will often be reproofed before others. V.12
(before all Israel) 

20) God may choose to expose his children's sin before the world in order to uphold His standard of righteousness. V.12
(and before the sun) 

v13 21) God seeks a believer's acknowledgment of sin. V.12
(I have sinned) 

22) God wants a believer to understand the transgression of sin. V.13  
(against the Lord) 

23) God wants to cover a believer with His everlasting mercy and grace. 
v.13 (The Lord hath put away thy sin) 
God's forgiveness breaks sin's eternal wages. 

24) God wants a believer to see that to sin is to bring delight to the enemy. V.14
(gives great occasion to the enemies of the Lord ... )

25) God wants His children to love and uphold the integrity of God's name and word. 
v.14 ( ... enemies ... to blaspheme) 

26) God wants His children to see sin has present wages. V.14
(son shall surely die)

27) God wants a believer to put sin under God’s authority and be free to enjoy God's fullness. 

28)  God wlll defend and deliver His child from sin.
