Read the passage: Matthew 18
Comes from:
V 24 1) Realizing we had a debt greater than we could pay
(one was brought unto him, who owed him ten thousand talents)
v 25 2) Realizing we had nothing with which to purchase what was freely given to us.
( … he had nothing with which to pay, .…)
Were it not for mercy we would not be able to claim freedom from debt.
V 26 3) An appeal for mercy and worship are the only appropriate responses for one so indebted.
v 27 4) To one with so great a need, forgiveness is such a generous gift.
(then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.)
v 28-30 5) A forgiven one is to likewise show grace and mercy toward others.
(and he would not, … till he should pay the debt.)
v 31-34 6) Forgiveness is not really received until it can be given in return.
(. .… his lord was angry and delivered him to the inquisitors, … )
v 35 7) God's standard of forgiveness is a believer's response.
(so likewise shall my heavenly father do also unto you, … )
